I wish I could make lots of good excuses about why this (and other recent races and races to come in the near future) race haven't gone well...but ruth be told is that I just haven't trained half enough.

It was a pretty good mornign for a run.  A little chilly, and a bit windy at times, but much better than the conditions I encountered last year.  We misjudged the timing a little getting to the race so didn't park until 5 minutes before the start.  In the rush I forgot my gloves, which was a bit of a rookie mistake.  I had decided to run with the Napa group who were doing 9 easy and then the final 9.6 at MGP.  I felt good (if a little cold) for the first 9, and then was able to hold MGP type pace for baout 6 miles before the legs started to go.  In my defence the water stops in the second half of the race were far too far apart, e.g. there were stops at miles 2, 4, 6.5, 9, 11.5 & 15.....two back-to-back 3 1/2 mile stings without water is far too long for a thirsty runner like me.  On a  positive note I made it round in one piece and I'm not too sore today.  I've two races left in the distance challenge....I'll get those done and then reeavluate a lot of things.  I think for the half marathon I'll just run as hard as I can...and then my goal at Austin will be a 3:30 or so. 
 

Note: I actually ran a bit quicker than stated, but for some reason the official website uses the gun time rather than chip time...normally there wouldn't be much different, but as were took it easy at the start we started right at the back.

Easy run to get ready for 3M.  I have prepared myself for a humbling experience.  A couple of months ago I'd have told you that 1:30 would have been a walk in the park....now I'm sure even sure I can break 1:35.  Still I'll give it my best shot and see what appens...

Fantastic morning for a run...cool and with a slight tailwind.  I knew I wasn't going to set any records today...but hoped to run around 1:35 and feel pretty good at the end.  Well I exceeded my expectations.

Started out with a 7:15...I stupidly hadn't warmed up beforehand and didn't want to dead my legs off the bat.  The next mile was around 7:00...and then just tried to keep up a consistent effort level and not worry too much about the time.  I syarted to feel tired around mile 10, but just kept focusing on my form as much as possible...trying to stay relaxed...and thinking about the big downhill on Duval.  My form went a little...i.e. it was bloody awful....through campus, but I just kept pushing.  All is all I was very evenly paced....first 6 miles at an average of 7:04, last 7.1 miles at an average of 7:05 per mile for a 7:05 average pace overall.  I also did not "empty the tank" so I'm pleased that despite not training enough and with a lot of distractions that I was able to run a respectable time...and hope I can do the same at Austin.

Tough run this morning.  Felt good during the warm up, but then as soon as I hit the first (and it turns out only) 2,000 my legs felt lifeless.  I thought about what to do and decided to go and do some easy miles as I wasn't going to do myself any favours by trying to run hard when it wasn't there.  Hopefully my legs will be in better shape come Saturday as I have 18 miles on the calendar!
